HOW TO GROW
Sowing: Direct sow fireweed seeds in late fall, mixing the tiny seed with sand if necessary to sow evenly. Since this seed needs light to germinate, press it into the surface of the soil. For spring planting, mix these fireseed seeds for sale with moist sand and store it in the refrigerator for 60-90 days before planting; keep the soil consistently moist until germination, which usually occurs within 14-20 days.
Growing: Keep rosebay willowherb seedlings moist until they have become established. Mature plants prefer well-drained but moist soil and grow best with adequate moisture, though they also tolerate drought well. This plant adapts well to most soils. When grown from seed, this plant may not bloom until its second year of growth. It spreads quickly by means of rhizomes and its own seed and may become weedy, though seedlings can easily be removed. After several years of growth, mature plants can be divided. This plant attracts hummingbirds and bees.
Harvesting: For fresh flowers, cut long stems of flowers that have just opened and place them in water immediately; strip the leaves that will fall below the water.
Seed Saving: This plant will produce thin 3" pods that split, releasing silky white fluff with tiny seeds attached. Collect the fluff immediately, since it easily blows away on the wind. The fluff is difficult to separate from the seed, but it does not affect germination and can be planted in that condition. Store the fireweed seed in a cool, dry place.

Very pleased
Kudos
Thank you for the speedy service and for sending to Alaska via USPS. Getting items here is challenging. I won't get to plant the seeds until the snow leaves but am excited. Fireweed is my favorite flower. We had lots of it in South Central Alaska but not too much here in the Alaska panhandle.

Have not planted yet, but arrived fast and seems like a good product. Would recommend.

Fast delivery and well package
I was really impressed with how quickly my delivery came. I'm on the East coast of Canada and with border delays for Covid i want expecting fast. I received my package in 1.5 weeks. Everything looks great, I'm looking forward to growing these for next year's garden.

Just like alaska
Really miss theses plants from Alaska, thank you for offering these as not many people do.
Firewwed
Very disappointed. Supposed to be 1250 seeds.
Very small seeds and most attached to side of envelope but hard to be believe if even 100 seeds.
Fireweed seeds are very fine like dust, so a little goes a long way! We use a milligram to measure them out so seed count should be correct.
Fireweed seeds
I saw this plant on a TV show and it was stated that in Alaska the flower blooms spring to fall. When it's done blooming winter is not long away. My neighbor lived in Alaska for a time. I bought a packet for him & 1 for me, As I was moving to another State & not likely to see him again. So we can each watch them grow and remember each other. They arrived in record time... like before I moved. Thank you.
