April 28, 2008 - Where did April go?  It sure has been colder than normal, and we saw more snow last week.  It has been freezing again at night, but hopefully this is the last of the really cold weather.
The Pasque Flowers are a week or two later this year than the past few years.  We usually see them bloom around April 15, but this year they are blooming at the end of April.  For some reason they have taken on more of a purplish cast this year... other years they are closer to white.
Things in the Greenhouse are still green, thanks to the propane heat keeping it warm.  We transplanted all of the vegetable seedlings last week, and got them into their own individual cells.  We ended up with about 6,000 plants of tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, melons, cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, and the like.  Hopefully, they will go outside in about a month if it warms up in May.

April 12, 2008 - Well, last week was more snow, and more snow.  We had several storms that left us 6" or so; fortunately, most of the snow fell to the north of us.  This week most of the snow has melted, and we have seen temperatures in the 60s... it is beginning to feel like sping.
Inside the greenhouse, we have a lot of new wildflower shoots coming up!  Some new species in the greenhouse this year are: Widow's Cross (Sedum pulchellum), White Blue Eyed Grass (Sisyrinchium alba), White Wild Indigo (Baptisia alba), Blue Wild Indigo (Baptisia australis), and Prairie Spiderwort(Tradescantia bracteata).  Most germinated quite well, and are just beginning to get their true leaves now.
Many of the vegetables are just beginning to sprout, with the exception of a few tomatoes, and the peppers, which take a little more time and heat to come up.

April 4, 2008 - Our hopes of seeing Spring suffered a setback this week when we got a strom that left us about 5" of heavy, wet snow.  It really is a good thing, I suppose; since it will help to insulate all the over-wintering plants during the freeze-thaw cycles of April.
The Greenhouse is now running, and there are a lot of sprouts coming up.  We are not planting as much this year, but are continuing to diversify.  We are trying out some organic vegetables this year, as well as some annuals.
The new additions to the website are now being implemented.  Please check out our new species!  We have a lot of really special new species that are now being made available to you!

March 21, 2008 - Well, it is now officially spring, and we are starting up our Wildflower Journal again.  Just looking at the picture to the right would leave the impression that the natural world is dead; but here and there a blade of green grass, or an almost forgotten chirp of the robin, fortells the re-awakening of spring!
It has been a long winter, but we have not been idle!  We have been putting in long hours this winter, working on our website and store.  Adding all of the new species and giving the website a new face require lots of time and enery.
We are very excited to launch all of the new species in a few weeks, and hope that you will enjoy seeing all of the new additions.  We are adding a few new sections to the store for western natives, and even some annuals that come from all over the world.  We hope that this addition will give you a better selection for finding those species that will work well on your site.
